English Grammar in Bangla 

Article

সংজ্ঞা: 
সহজ ভাযায় a, an, the এই তিনটিকে Article বলে।

প্রকারভেদঃ 
Article সাধারণত দুই প্রকার। যথা:
1. Indefinite Article: a এবং an এই দুইটিকে Indefinite Article বলে।
2. Definite Article: the কে Definite Article বলে।

Article এর ব্যবহার পদ্ধতিঃ 

"a" এর ব্যবহার 

Rule 1:
যেসকল Singular Noun এর প্রথম Letter Consonant হলে, তার পূর্বে a বসে। যেমন: 
a book, a pen, a cow, a cat, a table, a chair etc.

Rule 2:
কোনো Word এর প্রথম Letter Vowel কিন্তু এদের উচ্চারণ U এর মতো হয় তাদের পূর্বে an না বসে a বসে। যেমন: 
a university, a European, a useful, a union etc.

Rule 3:
কোনো Word এর প্রথম Letter "o" Vowel কিন্তু এদের উচ্চারণ ওয়া এর মতো হয় তাদের পূর্বে an না বসে a বসে। যেমন: 
a one-eyed man, a one-taka note, etc.

Rule 4:
সাধারণত Proper Noun এর পূর্বে কোনো Article বসে না। কিন্তু তুলনা করার ক্ষেত্রে Common Noun রূপে ব্যবহৃত হলে তার পূর্বে a বসে। যেমন: 
You are a Nazrul, I see.
You will be a Fazlul Haque.
He is a Shakespeare, I think.

"an" এর ব্যবহার 

Rule 1:
সাধারণত Common Noun এর প্রথম Letter Vowel থাকলে, তার পূর্বে a বসে। যেমন: 

I ate an apple yesterday.
He is eating an egg.
I gave him an orange. ইত্যাদি।

Rule 2:

Abbreviated Word এর প্রথম Letter Consonant হলেও যদি উচ্চারণ Vowel এর মতো হয় তাহলে তার পূর্বে a বসে। যেমন: 
He is an M.A.
Mr Kamal is an L.L.B.
He is an M.P. ইত্যাদি।

Rule 3:

কোনো Word এর প্রথমে অনুচ্চারিত h থাকলে পূর্বে an বসে। যেমন: 
He is an honest man.
Wait here for an hour.
Mr Kamal is an honourable person. ইত্যাদি।

"the" এর ব্যবহার 

Rule 1:
কোনো ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা প্রাণীকে নির্দিষ্ট করে বুঝতে Noun এর পূর্বে the বসে। যেমন: 

He is the best boy in the class.
The bird is flying in the sky.   ইত্যাদি।

Rule 2:

কোনো Word দ্বারা সমগ্র জাতিকে বুঝলে পূর্বে টি বসে কিন্তু মানব জাতি (man/woman) এর পূর্বে the বসে না । যেমন: 
The cow is a useful animal.
The cat is fond of milk.
Man is  mortal.
Woman loves her child.  ইত্যাদি।

Rule 3:

নদী, সাগর, মহাসাগর, পর্বতমালা, ধর্মগ্রন্থ, সংবাদপত্র, প্রসিদ্ধ কোনো গ্রন্থ ও জাহাজের নামের পূর্বে the বসে। যেমন: 
The Padma is a big river.
The Bay of Bengal is to the south of Bangladesh.
The Pacific Ocean is very deep.
The Ittefaq is a daily newspaper.
The Quran is a great holy book. ইত্যাদি।

Rule 4:

জাতির নামের পূর্বে the বসে কিন্তু ভাষার নামের পূর্বে "the" বসে না। যেমন: 
The Bangalees are a brave nation.
The English is a great nation. ইত্যাদি।

Rule 5:

কোনো দিকের পূর্বে "the" বসে। যেমন: 
The north, the south, the east, the west etc.

Rule 6:

নির্দিষ্ট তারিখের পূর্বে "the" বসে। যেমন: 
The 16th December is our national day.

The 21st February is our Martyr day. ইত্যাদি।

Rule 7:

চন্দ্র, সূর্য, পৃথিবী, গ্রহ, নক্ষত্র ইত্যাদির পূর্বে "the" বসে। যেমন: 
The moon shines at night.
The earth moves round the sun.
The sun rises in the east.  ইত্যাদি।

Rule 8:

দ্বীপুঞ্জের নামের পূর্বে "the" বসে। যেমন: 
The Andamans are the group of islands. 

Rule 9:

ঋতুর নামের পূর্বে "the" বসে। যেমন: 
It is the winter now.
The spring is the king of season.  ইত্যাদি।

Rule 10:

হ্রদের নামের পূর্বে "the" বসে। যেমন: 
The Baikal is fresh water lake.

Rule 11:

সম্প্রদায় বিশিষ্ট Adjective এর পূর্বে "the" বসে। যেমন: 
The rich are not always happy.
The poor live from hand to mouth.  ইত্যাদি।

Rule 12:

কোনো বংশ বা পদবি বুঝতে "the" বসে। যেমন: 
The Munshis of this village are famous.
The Sheikhs are rich.  ইত্যাদি।
